Tom Kaulitz, guitarist for Tokio Hotel has answered 15 questions from the fans!
When was your last time you went to the cinema, and which movie did you
watch?
hmm….it was Spider-Man 3. We went together to the cinema.
What would somebody have to give to you, so that you wear once Bill’s
clothes?
Well, I can imagine something with Angelina Jolie. No, nonsense. I
would never wear Bill’s clothes, and to be honest, I don’t think anyone
would like to see me like that.
If you’d have a girlfriend, would you hide that from the press, or
would you admit it openly?
But I always talk about my girlfriends.
I have one or two now and then..but it doesn’t really last longer than
one day.
Have you thought about cutting off your dreads?
Not for the moment, but when if I’ll want to cut them off, I will.
Do your friends and family have nothing to say about you talking all
the time about sex, and about the fact that you are sleeping with
groupies?
Why should they? Other parents would like for their children to talk
about it. And this way I don’t have to lie.
How can someone provoke you? What gets the most on your nerves?
I’m not that easy to provoke. I think that there’s only one person who
can really do that. This person is 10 minutes younger than me, and his
name starts with B. I can’t say how he sees this.
Do you think you’ll make a tattoo or a new piercing? If yes, where?
I can’t imagine that..But we’ll see what the time will bring.
How many guitars do you have? Do you name them?
I don’t really know how many there are…I think there are about 20 and I
don’t give them names. But Georg calls his base “Mr.Sandberg”. It’s his
only friend anyway. (He’s crazy)
You said that you and Bill often have the same dreams. Which was the
most embarrassing/beautiful/strange dream you ever had?
I think this is the first question I don’t really have an answer for.
And that’s because I always forget about what I dream.
What was the most sordid lie you’ve ever invented?
I never lie! I hope everyone knows that!
Do you like to remember about school, about school trips and so on? If
so you, what did you especially liked then?
There was only one school trip I went to. I pretended to be sick for
the others. I don’t really like to remember about school. I hated it!
School trips were a change to the awful everyday school-life. You could
have many girlfriends there, that’s the only positive thing I can
remember.
Do you have any habits (do you speak while sleeping for example)?
Maybe I do speak while sleeping. I can’t really tell…you should ask the
others about it. Otherwise I like leaving things behind in different
places, and things which remain there for good.
Is there still a dream you would like to come true or are you perfectly
happy?
I’m really happy…Whenever I express some dreams they probably sound
stupid, but I wish to be as successful as now for as long as possible, and
to see as many countries as possible together with my boys.
What goes to you mind during concerts when you make such grimaces?
Grimaces?…I think that, if you play music and you are in your element,
you don’t have your face expressions under control. You don’t think of
anything…you just play!

Tom Exclusive Interview
Before Tokio Hotel comes to Japan, we made a phone call to their studio in Hamburg. They are doing the rehearsal for their South America trip.
Tom picked up the phone and his voice was so fresh and vigorous as he burst out of the phone.
According to their historical popularity in Europe, we thought he would be not as gentle as a gentleman. However, to a big surprise he gave us a pretty good impression.
Based on the information on the internet, you have been looking for some place to move in recently. Is it because of recording? Or is it temporary?
Tom: Yeah, we are going to move to LA. But we have a new house in Hamburg as well.
Why? Have you moved to LA already?
Tom: We have been living in Hamburg before, but we decided to move to LA because we are going to cooperate with the producer who lives in LA. Our decision is based on our work, so we decided to move to LA.
According to the rumors, after you finish recording this new song, four of you want to go back to Germany instead of staying in LA, don’t you?
Tom: In fact, Georg and Gustav still live in Magdeburg Germany. Bill and I live in LA. But right now we are in Germany, because we are absorbed in the rehearsal for South America trip.
Is it okay? You guys are separated from each other. What is the collective wisdom for a group?
Tom: Actually, it is just a little bit troublesome. But we have founded this band for almost 10 years, so there will not be some special problems for us. We can meet in the rehearsal room and do everything for the rehearsal. Just like the very beginning, we practiced and wrote songs together in Germany, then Georg and Gustav come over and we do the rehearsal together.
I heard of some news that Bill brought all his 4 dogs to LA. Is it real?
Tom: Yes, all 4 dogs are in LA.
I am a brilliant lovely beautiful guitarist.
How is your life in LA? Do you live with Bill?
Tom: Absolutely, we live together.
Where do you live in LA?
Tom: West Hollywood, it is nice place.
Do you have many friends in LA?
Tom: We don’t have many friends in LA, even in Germany we don’t have too many friends. (laugh)
Is it because you are super stars?
Tom: Ehm, it is one of the reasons, I think. After all we don’t live like normal people. But since we were in high school, we do have two or three close friends. If they come to LA, then it is wonderful. We have friends in LA, but because of the work we always come and go from the studio and out home. Our producer lives in LA, so it is amazing, isn’t it?
When you were in Germany, you must have been shadowed by thefts or followers. Maybe your life in LA could be safer and more peaceful.
Tom: Yeah, I hope so. It’s a reason that we move to LA.
Your South America trip is the first step entering American market. It is really a good beginning.
Tom: Maybe, I guess out next album will release soon. In 2010, we plan to go to Japan and have some promotional show case. We are looking forward to. We will finish new album after our South America trip, so I think it will take a little bit time. Therefore, it will also take a while to enter American market.
We know everyone has their own hobbies, by the way, who does the housework at home? Bill? Or does someone help you with that?
Tom: There are some people who help us do the housework, coz the house is too big, it’s necessary to hire some to do that. But we sometimes do some housework together as well.
Tokio Hotel is absolutely super star in Europe. Do you want to take the advantages of your star effects to do some charity work? Or some work like charity?
Tom: Of course, we have done many different kinds of charity work. It has been almost 3 years since Bill and I became vegetarian. In this aspect, even though there is not so many this kind of charity work, we will find some work to do as well.
You are a vegetarian, but I am a meat lover. (laugh)
Tom: Oh, you are a vegetarian, so are Georg and Gustav.
I like eating meat. I only ate meat in 7 days when I was in Germany. It seems like that German like eating meat.
Tom: Although I am a vegetarian and I don’t eat meat, but I have to eat healthy food otherwise I have no strength at all. In the past, I like eating fast food such as cheeseburgers and hotdogs.
Tom, would you mind telling me your personality?
Tom: It is a tough question. You’d better ask Bill. In my mind, I am a brilliant lovely beautiful guitarist. And I am also very kind. Bill and I are both Virginis, so I am a perfectionist. Sometimes, on this aspect I am like sort of freak, so I may cause troubles.
When Bill and you are together, what do you talk about?
Tom: You mean when we are together? We decide everything together, no matter what. When we are lying on the bed, we still discuss what to choose between ice coffee and hot coffee, or which color is better for the floor of the rehearsal room, or which song do we play or how to play in the show. We share everything with each other.
You have a studio at home in Hamburg, will you have one in LA?
Tom: Because we just moved, some furniture will be delivered in 2 or 3 weeks. The house in Hamburg is empty. Coz the house in LA is so big that I think…
Do you plan to build a studio room in which you can make an album by yourself?
Tom: Yes, I believe we are going to build one though it takes a lot of money.
Then you can make your own music that you like anytime.
Tom: Sure, we have been doing so when we were in Hamburg. We can write songs as we record, and then we can do the recording officially in producer’s studio. So we have to make a decision. Shall we spend lots of money to build our own studio in our house or find some other studio to help us with recording?
Is the producer David Jost?
Tom: David Jost and Dave Roth.
Are you going to cooperate with these two people for the next album?
Tom: I think so. Except them, we will invite some other producers and song-writers to join us. Coz we want to do something special and fresh, but I don’t know too much about the next album. We don’t make plans. As long as we haven’t started writing, we don’t know what is going to happen next.
Did you sing a song in Japanese 3 or 4 years ago, right?
Tom: Yeah, it’s “Durch den Monsun”.
Will you sing in Japanese again?
Tom: I don’t know yet. Bill is responsible for this. But as for Bill, it’s really difficult for him to sing in Japanese. And except English and German, we are too lazy to learn other foreign languages. So we need help when we do the recording. Although we had a good time when we recorded the “Durch den Monsun” Japanese version, it is really hard. Oh, you heard that one, didn’t you? Can you understand what we sung?
In fact, I just read some relating information, I haven’t listened. But I promise you if you sing in Japanese when you come to Japan this time, I will tell you how well you sing.
Tom: Ok, then.
Next question is a basic one. Why do you name your band “Tokio Hotel”?
Tom: The original name is “Devilish”.
Yeah, I know that, it’s a cool name.
Tom: Sure, it is a pretty cool name. we want a cooler one. So we decided to be under name “Tokio” after discussion. Tokyo sounds more beautiful than Berlin. However we have never been there before. To some extent, the name of our band symbolizes the final goal for us. And our next destination is Tokyo. We are going to play live.
What do you know about Tokyo or Japan?
Tom: I have no idea. Some people told me that Japan is a colorful world, so we really want to experience by ourselves. Actually there is no specific image of Tokyo in my mind. I think it will be a big surprise.
Tom, do you have something that you want to do in Japan? Do you have something to say to your fans?
Tom: Sure. I really appreciate that you are so surportive all the time. We are looking forward to going to Japan and meet all you guys on the live concert and show case. This is our first time to go to Japan, so we are so excited. We are longing for seeing the streets, tasting Japanese food and so on. We can not wait any more.

Tom: Daca ash iubi o fata i-ash zice acest lucru. dar numai atunci cand e chiar asha. dar nu a fost pana acum cazul acesta. nu am spus nimanui "te iubesc".
Dar tzi-a zis acest lucru o fata?
Tom: Nu. fetele sunt aici atente ca acest lucru s ashi fie adevarat- shi nu mi s-a intamplat.
Tz-i s-a intamplat vreo intamplare penibila cu o fata?
Tom: O prietena de atunci mi-a tras una animalic. zicea ca am povestit prostii despre ea.de aceea a terminat-o cu mine-cu o palma.

Tom: am fost mai mult acru decat trist. se intamplase in mijlocul curtzii scolii. total penibilk-totzi prietenii au vazut faza aceea...
Cine este in trupa voastra thema nr. 1?
Tom: eva longoria, angelina jolie shi surorile olsen. din pacate nu le putem vedea decat in BRAVO. noile poze cu surorile olsen mi s-au parut animalice (adica super tari).
Cum trebuie sa fie o fata ca sa o consideri animalica? (se refera la fizic, mishto)
Tom: bruneta, blonda, neagra, asta imi e indiferent. important e ca se potriveshte cu noi. fetele pe care le consider bune (frumoase) arata intotdeauna total diferit.
Ce zici, ar dauna trupei daca te-ai indragosti?
Tom: nu, n-ar avea nici o influentza asupra Tokio Hotel. Trupa e chiar thema nr. 1 ptr. mine, asta trebuie sa intzeleaga o fata. Ar fi greu acum sa am o prietena cuym suntem doar pe drumuri..shi ar avea mai mult prietena de suferit decat muzica.
Era si la voi in scoala o astfel de fata?
Tom: normal. era blonda, mare, avea o figura (fatza) tare, arata super. era acel lucru pe care totzi si-l doreau

Tom: normal am vorbit cu prietenii mei despre ea. si cand mergea pe hol cu totzii ne uitam dupa ea.
Ai incercat sa o cunoshti?
Tom: nimeni nu o shtia bine, iar de aceea ne era greu sa ajungem la ea. fiecare a incercat- iar eu am chiar reushit.. am fost putzin cu ea...
De ce doar putzin?
Tom: cumva nu ne potriveam. poate ptr. ca aveam asha mari ashteptari d ela o thema nr. 1. ptr mine cel mai important a fost "seifenblase" (se refera la obsesia ptr. ea) care s-a spart.
Ai fost foarte dezamagit?
Tom: Nu, nu era doar ce-a potrivita.nu potzi face nimik

“Ma gandesc tot timpul la fete!”
In spatele talentului nebunesc al acestui chitarist experimentat, se ascunde un tanar inflacarat si sarmant in acelasi timp. Intr-adevar, la 17 ani, rock star-ul afiseaza un temperament incendiary si o atractie irizistibila asupra tinerelor fete.
La ce varsta ai avut prima ta chitara?
Am invatat sa cant la chitara de la tatal meu vitreg cand aveam 6 ani. Doi ani mai tarziu, am economisit destui bani pentru a-mi cumpara propriul meu instrument. Era primul meu premiu, un model de calitate nu foarte buna dar avea o valoare inestimabila pentru mine. Si astazi inca tin enorm la acea chitara care a devenit un adevarat talisman. Cu ea eu si Bill am sustinut primele noastre concerte.
Ce v-a impins sa cantati asa de tineri in public?
Eu si Bill nu ne-am pus niciodata cu adevarat intrebarea asta. Dorinta de a urca pe scena este inca prezenta. De cand am invatat sa interpretam o bucata, a fost necesar sa-I facem si pe altii sa o asculte, mai intai pe cei apropiati si apoi ceilalti.

La opt ani, nu va era frica sa urcati pe scena?
Cand esti copil, te porti spontan, fara timiditate sau constiinta judecatii altora. Si apoi, adultii sunt cu adevarat un public bun in ceea ce-I priveste pe cei mici. Ei sunt intotdeauna impresionati cand ii vad pe copii ca se descurca singuri ca adultii. Chiar daca prestatiile noastre nu sunt extraordinare, ei ne recunosc su siguranta valoarea cu un ropot de aplauze. Aceasta flatanta experienta a contribuit in mare parte la a ne face sa iubim scena si la a ne face san e simtim bine.
Parintii vostri preferau mai degraba ca voi sa aveti o copilarie obisnuita?
Mama noastra si mai ales tatal nostrum vitreg n-au incercat niciodata san e infraneze impetuozitatea artistica, din contra. Ei vedeau cu ochi buni activitatile noastre musicale. Si la 15 ani cand am avut ocazia de a semna primul contract, ei erau cu adevarat incantati.
Cum erati vazuti de ceilalti tineri dein Loitsche si din Magdeburg?
Bill si cu mine am fost intotdeauna nedespartiti, noi eram (rade)! Cu look-ul nostrum excentric si cu personalitatile noastre puternice nu puteam trece neobservati. Si asta enerva cel maimult. Mai presus de toate, paream ingamfati, lasam la vedere o urma de aroganta, exasperanta pentru baietii de varsta noastra. In concluzie, nu eram prea agreati.
Ai suferit din cauza acestor respingeri?
Din contra, imi placea sa fiu in rolul celui care deranjeaza si care e aratat cu degetul. Cu cat ma criticau mai mult cu atat imi accentuam mai tare diferentele si ii provocam. Si astazi inca am obiceiul de ma juca cu agitatii. (rade)
Cand ai inceput sa porti dread-uri?
Toate astea au inceput cand aveam 11 ani. La scoala, freza mea a devenit repede un mare subiect de conversatie. Si pe strada, lumea intorcea sistematic capul cand treceam.
Care este cea mai neplacuta amintire din adolescenta?
Cand ma gandesc la ce am facut in anii trecuti, nu-mi vine nimic neplacut in minte. Exceptand poate prima mea experienta sexuala care a fost un adevarat dezastru… pentru nimic in lume n-as vrea sa retraiesc acel moment. Ma simt obligat sa precizez ca acel inceput neplacut n-a fost din vina mea. Partenera mea era cu adevarat mult prea luata (rade) (banuiesc ca beata )

Cu siguranta, si totul se intampla numai la cote maxime (face cu ochiul)

La inceputul primelor noastre deplasari profesionale imparteam aceeasi camera. Seara la hotel, este chiar placut sa poti discuta cu cel mai bun prieten pana la miezul noptii. Dar odata cu cresterea numarului de deplasari, am decis in cele din urma sa despartim camera. Avem nevoie atat unul cat si celalalt sa ave propriul nostrum spatiu. La ce varsta ai avut prima ta chitara?
Am invatat sa cant la chitara de la tatal meu vitreg cand aveam 6 ani. Doi ani mai tarziu, am economisit destui bani pentru a-mi cumpara propriul meu instrument. Era primul meu premiu, un model de calitate nu foarte buna dar avea o valoare inestimabila pentru mine. Si astazi inca tin enorm la acea chitara care a devenit un adevarat talisman. Cu ea eu si Bill am sustinut primele noastre concerte.
Ce v-a impins sa cantati asa de tineri in public?
Eu si Bill nu ne-am pus niciodata cu adevarat intrebarea asta. Dorinta de a urca pe scena este inca prezenta. De cand am invatat sa interpretam o bucata, a fost necesar sa-I facem si pe altii sa o asculte, mai intai pe cei apropiati si apoi ceilalti.

La opt ani, nu va era frica sa urcati pe scena?
Cand esti copil, te porti spontan, fara timiditate sau constiinta judecatii altora. Si apoi, adultii sunt cu adevarat un public bun in ceea ce-I priveste pe cei mici. Ei sunt intotdeauna impresionati cand ii vad pe copii ca se descurca singuri ca adultii. Chiar daca prestatiile noastre nu sunt extraordinare, ei ne recunosc su siguranta valoarea cu un ropot de aplauze. Aceasta flatanta experienta a contribuit in mare parte la a ne face sa iubim scena si la a ne face san e simtim bine.
Parintii vostri preferau mai degraba ca voi sa aveti o copilarie obisnuita?
Mama noastra si mai ales tatal nostrum vitreg n-au incercat niciodata san e infraneze impetuozitatea artistica, din contra. Ei vedeau cu ochi buni activitatile noastre musicale. Si la 15 ani cand am avut ocazia de a semna primul contract, ei erau cu adevarat incantati.
Cum erati vazuti de ceilalti tineri dein Loitsche si din Magdeburg?
Bill si cu mine am fost intotdeauna nedespartiti, noi eram (rade)! Cu look-ul nostrum excentric si cu personalitatile noastre puternice nu puteam trece neobservati. Si asta enerva cel maimult. Mai presus de toate, paream ingamfati, lasam la vedere o urma de aroganta, exasperanta pentru baietii de varsta noastra. In concluzie, nu eram prea agreati.
Ai suferit din cauza acestor respingeri?
Din contra, imi placea sa fiu in rolul celui care deranjeaza si care e aratat cu degetul. Cu cat ma criticau mai mult cu atat imi accentuam mai tare diferentele si ii provocam. Si astazi inca am obiceiul de ma juca cu agitatii. (rade)
Cand ai inceput sa porti dread-uri?
Toate astea au inceput cand aveam 11 ani. La scoala, freza mea a devenit repede un mare subiect de conversatie. Si pe strada, lumea intorcea sistematic capul cand treceam.
Care este cea mai neplacuta amintire din adolescenta?
Cand ma gandesc la ce am facut in anii trecuti, nu-mi vine nimic neplacut in minte. Exceptand poate prima mea experienta sexuala care a fost un adevarat dezastru… pentru nimic in lume n-as vrea sa retraiesc acel moment. Ma simt obligat sa precizez ca acel inceput neplacut n-a fost din vina mea. Partenera mea era cu adevarat mult prea luata (rade) (banuiesc ca beata )

In fapt, nu inteleg de ce majoritatea fetelor sunt complicate! Si vorbesc in cunostiinta de cauza. Am niste amice experte in a face din tantar armasar. Serios, nu vad care e distractia.
Fara de ce esti incapabil sa traiesti?
In mod sigur, nu-mi pot imagina viata mea fara Bill. Suntem foarte apropiati unul de altul Timp de 17 ani am impartit totul si mi-ar fi imposibil sa functionez fara el. Evident, ini egala masura sunt incapabil sa traiesc fara muzica, marea mea pasiune.
Ce relatie e intre tine si Bill?
Relatia care ma leaga de Bill este unica; Numai gemenii ma pot intelege cu adevarat. Stim totul unul despre altul, atat emotiile cat si cele mai intime lucruri. La inceputul primelor noastre deplasari profesionale imparteam aceeasi camera. Seara la hotel, este chiar placut sa poti discuta cu cel mai bun prieten pana la miezul noptii. Dar odata cu cresterea numarului de deplasari, am decis in cele din urma sa despartim camera. Avem nevoie atat unul cat si celalalt sa ave propriul nostrum spatiu.
